Being Qualified Leadership

Being qualified for what's next and being ready for what's next are two very different things.

Knowing a skill does not necessarily make you an effective leader. Knowledge can make you a specialist, but not necessarily a leader.

Leadership requires the ability to collect and analyze current realities and make wise decisions about how to allocate human and tangible resources. It demands the ability to recognize risks, opportunities, and competing priorities. Leaders must weigh alternatives and consider multiple perspectives to balance short- and long-term impact.

A leader is ready when they:

• Consistently examine alternatives

• Actively solicit and value diverse input

• Set wise goals

• Gain active support and confidence in a new initiative

• Monitor progress and adjust to keep plans on track

• Assumes responsibility for schedule and results

• Recognize and celebrate achievement

Being ready for what’s next requires more than knowledge or experience. It requires the discipline to read the situation as it is today, challenge assumptions, consider multiple perspectives, and adjust as conditions change.

Effective leaders continually ask, “What does the environment require right now?
